Egor Antonenko

Russian-born cellist Egor Antonenko has distinguished himself internationally as a versatile soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. Mr. Antonenko made his solo debut at the age of eight years old, performing with the Kaliningrad Chamber Orchestra.

He continued to perform with many of the prestigious Eastern European orchestras including the Moscow and Ryazan chamber orchestras, and the Petrozavodsk, Yaroslavi and Volgograd Symphonies. Egor has made his American orchestral solo debut with the Longy School of Music of Bard College Symphony performing the Dvorak Cello Concerto and most recently, performed Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations with the Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra.

As a recitalist, Mr. Antonenko has performed in Moscow’s famed Great Hall, the Pavel Slobodkin Center at the Russian Embassy of the Czech Republic, the State Conservatory of Glazunov Hall and Sanders Theater at Harvard University, Symphony Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Bohemian National Hall in NYC, as well as in Jordan Hall from the New England Conservatory and Breaker’s Hall in Newport, Rhode Island.

As a soloist, Mr. Antonenko has performed under the baton of Marius Stravinsky, Leon Botstein, Miguel Etchegoncelay, Gil Rose, Benjamin Zander, and Terry King amongst many others.

He has been a prize winner in numerous competitions including the International Competition of Moscow’s Young Musicians “Rising Stars”, the 18th “Citi di Barletta” Italian International Young Artist Competition, Longy School of Music of Bard College Concerto Competition, Syracuse University Concerto Competition and “Gradus ad Parnassum” of Lithuania II International competition and most recently the Civic Morning Musical Young Artist award which was granted to the most outstanding graduating musician of the Setnor School of Music.

Collaborative appearances include the Shanghai and Hausmann String Quartets, William Preucil, the Newport and Lyrica chamber music festivals and the International Music Festival of St. Marks. Mr. Antonenko received diplomas from the Moscow State Conservatory and Central Music School as a student of Maria Zhuravleva, an undergraduate diploma in cello performance at Longy School of Music of Bard College as a student of Dr. Terry King, and most recently Master of Music in cello performance at the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University as teaching assistant to Dr. Terry King. He taught alongside his mentor and provided supplemental lessons and orchestra repertoire classes for lower strings that he was instrumental in establishing the curriculum for this newly created class at Syracuse University.

Mr. Antonenko performed and managed over five hundred chamber music concerts in more than 50 countries for a partnership between the Lincoln Center Stage and the Holland America Line. He also participated in a live performance collaboration between BBC Earth and Holland America Line for a documentary series known as “Frozen Planet Live”.

In 2018, Mr. Antonenko made his debut appearance at the iPalpiti Music Festival as assistant principal cellist and fellow of the “Soloist Program” that included performances & recordings. He collaborated on the West Coast Premier of J. Ripper’s Piano Quintet for “Sundays Live! at LACMA”, performed at the Bing Theatre, and also played on West Coast Premiere of L. Auerbach’s Piano Trio No. 2 “Triptytch” in Los Angeles.


In the spring of 2019, Mr. Antonenko made his National Public Radio (NPR) debut on Robert Sherman’s McGraw-Hill Young Artist broadcast on WQXR radio station in NYC, featuring C. Franck’s Sonata in A Major and I. Stravinsky’s Suite Italienne, in addition to a performance as principal cellist of the Lyrica Chamber Orchestra, featuring S. Barber’s “Sure on this Shining Night” and A. Corelli’s Christmas Concerto.

As a humanitarian, Egor has given back to the community by performing outreach concerts at the Cancer Center of Upstate New York, Veteran’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY, numerous performances at assisted living facilities, and adult amateur workshops in both Boston and New York. Most notably, Mr. Antonenko received a CORA Foundation Grant bestowed by the Central New York Arts Council presented by NY Senator Rachel May, (53rd District), in the Spring of 2019 for his work on the Art House. 

Mr. Antonenko is currently holding the cello and manager positions at Lincoln Center Stage ensemble, the Assistant Principal cellist to the renowned iPalpiti orchestra as well as a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra under maestro Benjamin Zander, principal cellist of the Lyrica Chamber Orchestra and Rivers Symphony Orchestra. He has also participated as acting principal cellist with Boston Modern Orchestra Project.
