Patrick Shaughnessy

Hailed by Strad magazine as having “created soaring melodies and long lines”, violinist Patrick Shaughnessy has been the founding member and 1st violinist of the Heimat quartet since 2014. As a chamber musician, Mr. Shaughnessy has participated in many festivals, including residencies in at LAMP in Nova Scotia, Festival Esmeraldes in Quito, Ecuardor, and festival appearances at the Juilliard quartet seminar, Encore Chamber Festival, and The Mendelssohn Festival in Hamburg, Germany. Mr. Shaughnessy is passionate about teaching, and has been an Adjunct faculty member at the Shenanadoah University Conservatory. He has also been coaching chamber music and orchestra at Shippensburg State University in Pennsylvania. While a member of the Heimat Quartet, Mr. Shaughnessy was a quarter finalist in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition as well the Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar, Germany. Currently, Mr. Shaughnessy spends his summers coaching, playing and teaching as a young artist faculty and Dean of Students at The Lyricafest Chamber music festival in Lincoln, MA.

Mr. Shaughnessy earned his bachelor’s of music at the Florida State University College of Music under the tutelage of former NY Philharmonic Concertmaster Eliot Chapo. He continued his studies at the Boston Conservatory of Music, receiving his Master’s with Professor Irina Muresanu. Mr. Shaughnessy holds Chamber music degrees from Kent State University and Montclair State University where he earned both a Master’s in Chamber music and an Artist Diploma under the mentorship of the Miami and Shanghai string quartets. In 2019, Mr. Shaughnessy gave his Carnegie hall debut as 1st violinist of the Heimat Quartet. He lives in Winchester, VA where the quartet is in residence for the 2019/2020 season at the Shenandoah University.
